March 21, 2018 – Woman Constable Mellissa White, of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) was charged for murder and perversion of the course of justice on March 20, 2018, following an INDECOM investigation into the fatal shooting of Edwin George Brown.

Yesterday she was taken before Parish Judge, Maxine Ellis in the Corporate Area Parish Court, where she was granted bail in the sum of $500,000.00, with surety. She was also ordered to surrender her travel documents.

The committal hearing is set for mention on April 27, 2018.


The fatal shooting of Mr. Brown occurred on June 6, 2017 at the corner of Caledonia Avenue and Old Hope Road in Cross Roads, St. Andrew. No firearm was recovered from the scene.

INDECOM’s investigations into the incident revealed that the officer’s account was incongruent with CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts. INDECOM acknowledges the assistance of the Bureau of Special Investigations (BSI) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) in this case.
