September 20, 2022 – Today, Tuesday, September 20, 2022, JCF officer, Sergeant Derrick Williams was placed before the Kingston and St. Andrew Parish Court, by way of summons, to answer to the charge of Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm contrary to common law. The charge was as a result of an investigation by the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) and a ruling by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

Sergeant Williams was charged in relation to the assault of a male in August Town, St. Andrew which occurred on February 19, 2021. The complainant was reportedly hit in the ear by Sergeant Williams during an enquiry into possible breaches of the Disaster Risk Management Act curfew stipulations. For the injury sustained, the complainant sought medical attention which revealed that he suffered Traumatic Otitis Media, indicating that significant force was applied to the ear.

Sergeant Williams was bound over until October 10, 2022.
