September 1, 2018 – The probe by The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) into the fatal shooting of Kriston Pearson, on May 7, 2017, has concluded. The Commission’s Report with recommendation for charge of the former JCF officer was submitted for ruling earlier this year. The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) confirmed the recommendation.

Mr. Oshane Thompson, has been a suspect in the incident and was interviewed under caution by the Commission. Shortly after he resigned from the police force and left the island to the United States of America (USA). INDECOM had since made enquiries of American officials to ascertain his location.

INDECOM’s Assistant Commissioner, Hamish Campbell has noted that the Americans have provided consistent support and assistance to Jamaican law enforcement in securing the proper return of persons, who have left the country. “The support of US agents in assisting INDECOM is significant and important. INDECOM is grateful for the support of the ODPP, JCF and US authorities to secure his return.”

Mr. Thompson was arrested by JCF officials on Thursday, August 30 upon his return to Jamaica, and will be put before the courts in the upcoming week for the charge of murder of Mr. Pearson.
