March 12, 2024 – A former police Constable, Kevin Smalling, who resigned from the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) in 2020 and migrated to the United States of America (USA), was arrested and charged on Friday, March 8, 2024. Mr. Smalling was then placed before the Kingston & St. Andrew Parish Court on Monday, March 11, 2024.

Following an investigation by the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM), the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), ruled that the ex-Constable Smalling be charged for the offences of murder and illegal possession of firearm.

The former Constable was charged in relation to the off-duty shooting of a family member, Lentoney Smalling, on December 2, 2018 at Lane Gate, 11 Miles, Bull Bay, St. Andrew. Lentoney Smalling succumbed to his injuries on December 13, 2018.

The former JCF member was remanded into custody by the Honourable Parish Judge. He will return to court on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 and a bail application will be heard.
