October 6, 2022 – The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) responded to and commenced investigations into two separate police fatal shooting incidents in St. Elizabeth on October 5. The incidents, which resulted in the death of two men, occurred in the community of Nain and along Goshen main road in the parish.
INDECOM’s initial investigation involved the collection and processing of evidentiary material at both incident scenes, witness canvassing and the documentation of initial accounts from the concerned officers. Concerned officers were served Section 21 Notices to provide a statements and or attend the office of the Commission to be interviewed.
The police have stated, that the incident located in Nain, St. Elizabeth, was as a result of police response to a home where a father was allegedly stabbed with a machete, by his son. During the police response, the man is alleged to have advanced toward an officer with the machete and the officer discharged his weapon at the man. The man was pronounced dead at the Black River Hospital. The deceased has been identified as 26 year old, Demario Foster o/c Ryan.
The second incident occurred along the Goshen Main Road, where the police report that a team from C-TOC intercepted a taxi and were fired upon by a male passenger, as he fled the scene on foot. During the exchange of gunfire the man was shot and later pronounced dead at the Black River Hospital. The deceased was identified as Oshane Earle.
The weapons attributed to the deceased men, a machete and a Sig Saeur firearm, were recovered and processed.
