September 14, 2022 – The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) responded to and commenced investigations into a police fatal shooting of a 20 year old male, who has been identified as Ian Herron.  The incident was reported as occurring in the late morning of September 13 along 3rd Street in Trench Town, Kingston 12.

INDECOM’s investigation involved the processing of the incident scene, witness canvassing and initial interviews with the concerned officers. All concerned officers provided initial accounts of the incident to the Investigative team and were each served a Section 21 Notice to provide a statement and attend the office of the Commission to be interviewed. Processing of the incident scene included the collection of forensic exhibits, swabbing of the hands of the deceased for gunshot residue and the sealing of the service firearms of the concerned officers for testing. One firearm, a Ruger P89 pistol with a visible serial number was reported as recovered from the incident scene, which was also processed by the INDECOM team.

In their initial accounts, the police have stated that a team of six officers were on mobile patrol in the Trench town area. Three of the officers entered a premises and report being fired at, by a man, and shooting in return. The man was transported to the Kingston Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
