October 19, 2018 – The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is investigating the fatal shooting incidents of four men during the period October 16 – 18, 2018.

 

October 16 – Reckord District, Clarendon

Investigators from the Central Team responded to the fatal shooting of Calvin Eubanks in Reckord District, Clarendon.

The officers report that they were travelling in their service vehicle and had been attacked with a machete by the deceased, when one officer fired in his direction.

Relatives of the deceased stated that the deceased had been mentally ill for the past five years and was on medication.

October 17 – Kitson Town, St. Catherine

Investigators from the South Eastern Team responded to the fatal shooting of Garth Thomas in Ackles District, Kitson Town, St. Catherine.

The officers report that the deceased had been acting suspiciously, was given verbal commands and then fired at the officer; who in turn returned fire. A 9mm pistol was reported as recovered from the scene.

The officer gave an initial account and Section 21 notices were served for an interview in the upcoming week.

 October 18 – Phillippa Road, Kingston

A team from the Eastern Regional Office responded to the fatal shooting of Michael Caldwell at Phillippa Road in Olympic Gardens.

An off-duty officer was at a location when he saw a man shooting another (this man succumbed to his injuries). He gave chase of the shooter and a shootout ensued between both men. The deceased was later found by residents suffering from gunshot wounds.

No weapon was recovered from the deceased.

October 18 – Marescaux Road, Kingston

A team from the Eastern Regional Office responded to a fatal shooting incident along Marescaux Road. The deceased was identified as Renardo Powell. The officers who were on patrol, saw a man fitting the description of the person allegedly carrying out robberies in the area. It is alleged that the man pulled a weapon resembling a firearm and one of the officers fired in the man’s direction.

An imitation weapon was reported as recovered from the scene.
