September 11, 2017 – The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has launched a probe into the fatal shooting of Shadrick Passley last night (September 10), on Crescent Road off Waltham Park Road.

According to initial police reports, at about 9:10 p.m. a police patrol team responded to gunshots between gangs along Crescent Road. Upon arrival of the police, men ran into a yard at premises #18A and were pursued by the patrol team. A member of the police team fired two rounds at Passley who, the police officer claimed, had pointed a firearm at him. The man fell to the ground and a handgun was allegedly recovered from him. The injured man was then retrieved from the yard and taken to KPH where he was pronounced dead.

The INDECOM team processed the scene, spoke to witnesses and obtained initial accounts from the officers. Detailed interviews are to follow on Wednesday.

The team returned to the area today to conduct further investigations. There had been reports that some residents had been engaged in protests of the shooting. The INDECOM team encouraged residents to provide information and not to be engaged in any unlawful protest action.
