September 11, 2018 – Investigators from The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) Eastern Regional Office have commenced an investigation into the fatal shooting of 17 year old student, Cacey Lake. The shooting incident occurred on Providence Pen Lane last night (Monday, September 10).

The concerned officers gave initial accounts and were served with notices to furnish a statement this week. A homemade handgun was reported as recovered from the scene.

Officers report that they were on patrol in the community when they were fired upon, and they returned fire. Residents have since expressed alternate versions of the incident. INDECOM’s investigation will therefore seek to determine the accuracy of all accounts given.

Following the shooting, there have been reports of damage to Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) property. Citizens are asked to desist from continuing such disruptive actions, as it will increase the tension between the security forces and residents.

Investigators from the Commission revisited the incident scene today to address citizens’ concerns.
